introduction

The following case explores the challenges, solutions, and output of a project executed for a leading logistics company focusing on container-related delivery and management. To guarantee that end users could track deliveries in real time, the project's objective was to optimize the delivery partner's route management, which would facilitate shipping and container drops. Real-time data handling capabilities and advanced route optimization algorithms were incorporated to mitigate the challenges.

problem statement

  • Delays and Added Operational Cost: Partners in delivery were not ready to go extra mile to adopt a systematic way of managing and optimizing their route. This led to extra operational costs and delays.
  • Dissatisfaction due to the Lack of Real-time Shipment Tracking: The customers were unable to track their container shipment in real time.
  • Poor order management systems were in operation to optimize the order management, which resulted in lower throughput throughout the delivery operations.

analysis

A study was done to check the efficiency of the system and the level of customer satisfaction. The real time data and tracking process was also taken into consideration while planning the required changes and techniques.

implementation

  • Route Optimization Tool: A MVP was developed with an easy-to-use configurable route optimization tool.
  • Real-time Tracking Interface: A module for real-time tracking was developed to enable the customers to have explicit information on the location status of their containers at any time.
  • Order Management System Improvement: The existing order management system was improved to optimize operations, handling, and delivery schedules for containers.
  • Mobile Application Development: A mobile application was developed for the delivery partners as well as for the customers to easily access the route management tools and real-time tracking data.
  • Integration with existing ERP: Seamless integration of the new system was done with the existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) of the company, to have continuity and integrity of data.

outcomes & benefits

Several benefits were realised with the implementation of the Project. Listed below are few salient results attained through the final deployment of application development:

  • The MVP was implemented and that optimized the overall operational efficiencies through route management.
  • Real-time tracking increased customer satisfaction through transparency in live data and building trust in the services of the company.
  • On-demand order management processes were improved and enhanced, thus making the process more effective and friendly.
  • Improved delivery of services which eventually increased the rate of customer retention and increased operational efficiency.

conclusion

The application of innovative technologies focused on the end customers in the supply chain. Post implementation, the operational efficiency in the delivery process and customers' experience have significantly increased.
